Jonathan Higuera
Jonathan Higuera is the deputy director for the
Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business
Journalism, which is part of the Walter Cronkite
School of Journalism at Arizona State University.
The center offers training to journalists in covering
business stories. He previously was a business
reporter at The Arizona Republic, Arizona Daily
Star and Tucson Citizen. He is also a former vice
president-print for the National Association of
Hispanic Journalists and former editor of the
Hispanic Link Weekly Report based in Washington,
D.C. He holds a B.A. in journalism from the Cronkite
School and a master’s of science in Mexican-American
Studies from the University of Arizona.

Catherine Anaya
Three-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Catherine
Anaya anchors the CBS
5 News weekday evening newscasts at 6:30pm and
10pm. She joined CBS 5
News in January 2003. The Arizona Associated Press
Broadcasters Association named Catherine
'Anchor of the Year' for 2003, the same year in
which she as named "Best
TV Newcomer" by Phoenix Magazine. Catherine
is a regular contributor to
Latino Perspectives Magazine. In May 2007, she
won the first place award
for Magazine commentary/analysis from the Arizona
Press Club and
previously wrote an award-winning monthly parenting
column for Los
Angeles Family Magazine. During her 18-year broadcast
career, Catherine has anchored in Los
Angeles, Indiana and Texas.

Anita Favela
Anita Favela Luera is director of the Cronkite
Institute of High School Journalism for the Walter
Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication
at Arizona State University. She joined the faculty
and staff of the ASU’s Cronkite School of Journalism
and Mass Communication in 2007 to launch new programs
targeting outreach to high school journalism students
and schools across Arizona. Luera’s television
broadcast news career spanned 27 years working
in news and management at three Phoenix TV stations.
She was an award-winning news producer serving
at 12 News, Univision Ch. 33 and Channel 10. Prior
to joining the Cronkite School Luera helped organize
a day-long news writing workshop for high school
journalism students in a partnership with Arizona
Latino Media Association and ASU.
Luera graduated from ASU with a BA in Broadcasting.

Elvia Diaz
Elvia Díaz is an assistant city editor at the
Arizona Republic. She edits Phoenix downtown development
and Sky Harbor International Airport. She also
helps produce the four editions of the Phoenix
Republic. She joined The Republic in 1999 covering
Tempe City Hall. Later, she covered Phoenix City
Hall and the state Legislature. She edited Extra!,
which covered south, west and central Phoenix.
She was born and raised in Mexico. Her first journalism
experience was in radio, working for Noticiero
Latino, a national Spanish-language radio news
service. After earning a master's degree in journalism
from the University of California at Berkeley,
she worked for the Statesman Journal in Salem,Ore.,
and the Albuquerque Journal.

Juan Villa
Juan Villa is the Community Relations Manager
for Telemundo Phoenix KTAZ-TV 39 and Telemundo
Tucson KHRR-TV 40. He has been with Telemundo
for the past five years working as Executive
Producer, Manager Editor and Line Producer. Before
joining Telemundo, he worked at La Voz Spanish
Newspaper. A 1998 graduate of the Walter Cronkite
School of Journalism from Arizona State University,
Villa has participated in several journalist and
academic conferences around the
world and has been an ALMA member since 1999.
